In the lead-up to this festival, Serial Space will offer a number of commissions and development residencies for the creation of new work to be presented in the festival. SOUND & VISION – a series of events and exhibitions presenting new experimental music, sound art, audiovisual performance, video art, installation and interactive work.

TALK – a program of debates, performance lectures, critical forums and artist presentations. We welcome formal experimentation of the presentation and dissemination of information.

Request for Proposals - COL:LAB (Collaboration Laboratory) 2012

freeDimensional is an international network of art spaces and human rights organizations that leverages underutilized resources in order to support artists and culture workers facing persecution as a result of their creative practice. (http://freedimensional.org) During the summer of 2012, fD will host a weeklong collaboration residency, taking the idea of artist residency and expanding it conceptually to address the needs of collaborative teams developing regional/local initiatives to provide direct service to or raise awareness of issues faced by artists doing the work of activists. Representatives of various cultural, human rights and social justice networks, organizations and movements are invited to submit proposals for collaborative initiatives they would like to shape with their peers. From these proposals, fD will select 6-8 teams to participate in COL:LAB 2012. Each selected team will have the opportunity to be in residence (along with 2 – 4 contributing partners) on Wasan Island (www.wasan-island.de) for a week in July 2012.

COL:LAB is intended is to provide participants with the time and resources to solidify their partnerships and shape their collaborative regional initiatives. In addition to accommodations and meeting space on the island, the collaboration teams will have access to different types of expertise (technology and planning/process consultants, funding specialists, presentation/communication experts, etc.) and various tools including case studies, workshops in various aspects of collaboration development and a database of related resources. We imagine that the island environment will be the ideal setting and space for each collaboration team to move their ideas forward and for cross pollination between initiatives. While much of the time on the island will be unstructured (in order to allow each team to develop their own process and work), there will be regular sessions during which all teams will be able to discuss issues of common concern and share solutions that will help to inform their separate initiatives.

It is one of the main programs of “Akos” Cultural NGO which was founded in 2002, Yerevan, Armenia and now it is a leading model for similar institutions internationally and member of Res Artis Worldwide network of artist residencies.

We call artists from all artistic disciplines to live, work, and collaborate during their preferred time of staying. ACOSS has agreement with two different territories to hold the artist-in-residence program; in Yerevan and in the village Aramus near Yerevan. Applicants mark in the application form which venue would they like to stay? It is possible to make final decision after arriving Yerevan, too.

Please, note: ACOSS also has opportunity to provide artists with separate apartments in other districts of Yerevan and in the country.

The program consists of a residency up to one year and includes private and sharing studios, housing, and three meals per day by agreement. Private studios are available for artists 24 hours a day. We are sure that the friendships established among artists in residence often lead to collaborations and connections after residency period.

Financial aid is available.

During the residency A week into the residency, the artist meets with the Artistic Director, Executive Director, Studio Manager, and/or EMC Manager for a Mid-term Technical Review. This informal check-in is a time to bring up any technical problems you may be experiencing in the residency, and to discuss the progress of your work. (Not applicable to 1-week residencies.)

The Guapamacátaro Interdisciplinary Residency in Art and Ecology

Michoacán, Mexico Datum dogodka: June 7-24, 2012

Guapamacátaro The Guapamacátaro Interdisciplinary Residency in Art and Ecology

Call for artists, scientists, educators and activists www.guapamacataro.org http://www.guapamacataro.org

The Guapamacátaro Interdisciplinary Residency in Art and Ecology is a site-based and community-oriented program for artists from different disciplines, scientists, educators and activists, aimed at fostering socially and ecologically-conscious cultural development in the area where the Guapamacátaro hacienda is located (Michoacán, Mexico). The program was founded in 2006 by Mexican artist and curator Alicia Marván, as an extension of her artistic practice. Its conceptual and artistic framework includes ecology in its broad sense, not limited to its common association with the preservation of the natural environment. All components of the local ecosystem (human, natural and artificial) and their relationship to each other are subject of inquiry, creativity and growth.

The Guapamacátaro hacienda was built in the late 1800's and is located in the culturally rich Purepecha region in the state of Michocán, Mexico, an hour and a half from the city of Morelia and three and a half hours from Mexico City. Nearby towns include Maravatío, Tlalpujahua and El Oro. The facilities, set on rural farmland, include several studios, large common areas and ample outdoor space. Housing is made available on the grounds in single and double rooms.

Each year the residency takes place in Winter/Spring and lasts 3 weeks. Because of the relative inaccessibility of the place and a desired cohesiveness of the group, all participants are required to be there the whole time, arriving and departing on specific dates and times.

During their stay, participants use the hacienda grounds as a laboratory for the creative process and engaging with the local community in art, ecology and development practices. They are free to work whenever desired in the provided studios and anywhere in the property. Experimentation is encouraged as is discourse and collaboration. Daily group activities such as morning stretch and meditation, and occasional guided walks and fieldtrips to nearby towns and natural areas are often organized, depending on people's interests.

Up to 10 people are selected from a mix of the following disciplines:

- Performing Arts (Music, Dance, Performance, Theater, Puppetry, etc) - Visual Arts (Painting, Drawing, Mixed-Media, Photography, Film/Video, etc) - Sculpture and Installation - Design and Architecture - Humanities and Social Sciences (Anthropology, Philosophy, Writing, etc) - Natural Sciences (Ecology, Hydrology, Biology, Geology, etc)

The selection process is both by invitation and application.

Application is open to professionals (or students who demonstrate maturity) from all countries, cultural backgrounds and aesthetics.

INVITATION TO APPLY FOR BADGAST 2012

PLEASE NOTE: DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS IS DECEMBER 1, 2011

http://www.satellietgroep.nl/apply_for_badgast_2012/1

APPLY FOR BADGAST 2012

You can send your application by mail to info@satellietgroep.nl to the attention of Jacqueline Heerema, curator; please send large files by wetransfer.

Satellietgroep is based since 2006 in The Hague, The Netherlands, a country with a strong historic art and innovative relationship with the sea. Satellietgroep has an embedded art and culture approach to researching the way the sea and waterways influences cities and people. We aim to research the pressure on public, social and cultural use on the waterfronts and develop new concepts and strategies focused on a new approach of future sea and coastal urban areas.

Arts and science can express the spatial and social qualities - as well as the problems - of our coastal areas, and make them engagingly accessible to the public. These works can transform a destination normally marked by consumption and recreation into a platform for critical communication and serious reflection. This timely reflection of art and science on spatial transition processes may act as a strong catalyst in generating public and professional discussions and connect contemporary research and new works to historic and future coastal developments.

BADGAST is a research based artist in residency at the coast of The Hague/Scheveningen where Satellietgroep invites artistst and scientists to develop and present research that articulates a cultural, innovative and sustainable significance of the sea and its coasts. Artists, designers, (landscape) architects and scientists can apply for a residency period of max 6 weeks in 2012 by sending a resume, earlier works, motivation, proposal for the workperiod and a prefered period.

BADGAST is built in 2009 of two stacked shipping containers by recycle architects Refunc for Satellietgroep. BADGAST is situated at FAST, the new urban beach community that is created at the point where the boulevard turns into the harbour of Scheveningen, The Hague, The Netherlands. In addition to the artist in residency program Satellietgroep programs the Cinema at Sea @ BADGAST and Talks @ BADGAST. We welcome your application!

There is no restriction related to the format of the artwork provided that it is possible that the work is produced in the given conditions and it is suitable for exhibition. The size and technical scale of the work needs to be reasonable and supportable by technical crews in the various galleries/spaces that are being considered. We are looking for completed works rather than demo pieces. Projects must be original.

The artwork will be included in the REMAKE collection/catalogue and exhibition. 2012 exhibitions include: Cluj (Fabrica de Pensule) and Brno (House of Arts).

2. Themes The proposed artwork should fit the thematic of the REMAKE project. It is expected to propose an up-to-date reflection, re-interpretation and re-make of an already existing piece of media art, thus generating a reflection on both the evolution of society, technologies, and artistic practices, and bringing back to public attention a specific moment in the media art history.

Priority will be given to works which enable participation and interactivity for the audience, tackle issues related to the contemporary society and/or use current technologies.

The REMAKE - Rethinking Media Art in K(C)ollaborative Environments (www.remakeme.eu) project is aimed at collaborative production and international presentation of new artworks, inspired by the rich history of European media art. The project is building on a research conducted in the recent years by a group of theorists, called MONOSKOP - collaborative research on media art and culture in Europe. The research project examines the social context of historical developments in media art (with special focus on Central and Eastern Europe). Analysis of socio-poetic conditions of art and technology crossings from 1960s to 2000s draws upon the undertakings in experimental and avantgarde film, performance art, computer art, video art, experimental music, sound art, and media theory.

The aim of the REMAKE project is to enhance this on-going research in an appealing, playful and artistically-challenging way: by producing and presenting a set of up-to-date artworks which will be inspired by particular well-known (but also forgotten) pieces of media art history in different European countries.

REMAKE focuses on creating artworks, collaborative shows and academic events in selected centers for contemporary art of Europe. The project contains of workshops, artistic residencies, public shows (exhibitions in Brno, Reykjavik and Cluj, multimedia performances in Bratislava, Banska Bystrica, Prague, Nantes, Cluj and others) , lectures and discussions, supporting circulation of lecturers/artists, as well as „collaborative lectures“ combining theory and practice.

The whole contemporary media art is trans-sectorial, including different media forms and cultural, as well as social and political dimensions. This phenomenon has its deep roots in what we defined as “new media history” (art of second half of 20th century). The REMAKE project is trying to enhance these factors and will focus on transversal interactions and intersections - creating artworks, collaborative shows and academic events in selected centers for contemporary art of Europe. Media art goes beyond what was traditionally named as visual arts, performing arts and music – it freely combines different media, thus offering a wide field of interactions.
